Walk to Reutte, Take the train to Ehrwald

0.0km - Start on the Lechhalde bridge. With Hohes Schloss castle and Füssen old town behind you, cross the Lech Rover and TURN RIGHT after the bridge onto Tiroler Straße.

0.2km – Just before the small chapel, TURN LEFT. Climb the steps towards the entrance gate and then follow the path around the sharp left-hand bend (signposted: Kalvarienberg, Hohenschwangau)

0.3km – TURN RIGHT at the next signpost and continue heading towards Kalvarienberg, Hohenschwangau.

0.6km – At the clearing by the yellow forest chapel, CONTINUE STRAIGHT over the crossroads and the grass to follow the uphill path STRAIGHT AHEAD into the forest. At the next fork in the road, TURN LEFT and follow the signs for Kalvarienberg, Hohenschwangau.

From this point, the Lechweg trail (a curved L) is signposted. You’ll follow this route until you reach Lechauen (close to Pflach)

1.0km – You’ve reached the summit of Kalvarienberge, admire the view before continuing on your walk. At the next signpost, BEAR LEFT following the path into the valley (towards Schwansee Lake) (the Lechweg trail section is closed).

1.3km – TURN RIGHT at the fork in the path descending towards Lake Schwansee.

1.4km – At the junction, where the trail meets a wider track, TURN LEFT and continue towards Lake Schwansee. From here, the Lechweg trail is marked again.

2.2km – At the fork in the road just before Lake Schwansee, BEAR LEFT following the Lech River Trail towards the lake and then continue along the shore around the lake.

Once you’re on the opposite side of the lake, follow the Lechweg trail, BEARING LEFT towards Hohenschwangau castle, continuing steeply uphill and through some hairpin bends around the ridge.

Once at the top, follow the signs for Lake Alpsee.

3.8km – A paved main road will cross the trail. Follow this road to the RIGHT and immediately TURN LEFT at the next signpost for ‘Alpsee-Rundweg’, the circular trail (continuing the Lechweg trail).

From here, keep following the Lake Alpsee circular trail along the shore.

6.9km – Shortly before the mouth of a stream opens into the lake, TURN sharply to the RIGHT following the Lechweg trail into the forest and away from the shore (signposted: Israelit/unterer Kitzbergweg)

8.6km – The path becomes a little flatter and wider, TURN RIGHT at a clearing on the Lechweg trail towards Pinswang.

9.4km – At the crossroads with the Lechweg bench (a bench with a Lechweg trail logo on it), TURN RIGHT and follow the curve downhill towards Pinswang.

10.5km – Be careful of the cow pasture!

10.9km – Ignore the path that branches off to your left and CONTINUE STRAIGHT following the main path into the valley.

11.6km – After passing a logging site with some machinery sheds, BEAR LEFT following the narrow path that branches off the main trail. Follow this briefly as it runs parallel to the trail and then TURN LEFT back into the forest.

12.3km – The path leads onto a wide road.  TURN LEFT until you reach the road and continue on the narrow path that runs parallel along it.

12.5km – TURN LEFT at the next opening onto the forest trail past a barrier.

13.1km – Leave the wider gravel path, TURN RIGHT just before the next electricity pylon and follow the narrow forest trail as it descends.

13.2km – At the end of the forest trail, TURN LEFT onto the intersecting path.

13.6km – After a sloping section just before Fernpassstraße, follow the Lechweg trail, KEEP LEFT until you reach an underpass. TURN LEFT before the underpass and continue along the path running parallel to Fernpassstraße. Do not cross under the road.

13.9km – Ignore the next underpass and continue STRAIGHT AHEAD.

14.2km – At the next underpass, TURN RIGHT crossing under the road. Keep following the Lechweg trail markings through the small village of Pflach.

14.9km – At Pflach train station, cross the railway tracks. Take care, there are no barriers or lights!

15.2km – TURN LEFT to stay on the Lechweg trail until you reach 21 Füssener Straße.

17.6km – The Lechweg trail branches off to the right at a green rubbish bin and a blue hydrant towards the town of Lechasscheu. Continue STRAIGHT AHEAD towards Reutte. From here, you don’t need to stick to the Lechweg trail!

Keep following the road into Reutte.

19.1km – The path joins the road again on the edge of Reutte. Cross the road and follow it to your LEFT.

19.2km – At the next bend, continue STRAIGHT AHEAD, at the roundabout fountain with park benches, then TURN LEFT in front of Gasthof Mohren and follow the road towards the tourist information office.

19.4km – At the tourist information office, TURN RIGHT onto Bahnhofstraße and follow it to the train station.

19.7km – You’ve ARRIVED at Reutte in Tirol train station, and come to the end of your walk.
