A varied hike ending at the Lake Piburger See
This leg promises a wonderful mixture of scenic riverside, forest and meadow walking, culminating with the shimmering waters of Lake Piburger See, a popular destination for day trips and bathing in the summer months. So pack your swimming gear and enjoy the water as your reward for conquering the Ötztaler Urweg.

Seehüter´s Hotel Seerose in Piburg
Weg
0.0 km – With your back to the church, go STRAIGHT down the road.
0.2 km – At the junction at the bus stop "Neudorf" TURN LEFT into the street Neudorf. Follow the road, passing under the main road.
0.5 km – At the intersection with the traffic island, TURN RIGHT into Antoniusweg. Walk along it to the end of the settlement.
0.7 km – At the end of the settlement at the intersection of Erlangerweg/Achrainweg, TURN HALF LEFT into Erlangerweg. Follow the gravel road downhill and cross the river. Follow the path around a bend to the right.
1.2 km – At the big intersection with the Marterl of Elsa Pflug TURN RIGHT. Now you are back on the Ötztaler Urweg. Follow the signs to Leiersbach and walk parallel to the river for about 1.5 km. You pass a fountain on the left side and cross the bridge of a tributary of the Ötztaler Ache. Ignore branching paths to the right and left.
2.6 km – At the fork in the road in the village of Leiersbach, KEEP RIGHT. Follow the signs for Östen/Tumpen and the red and white markings of the Ötztaler Urweg.
3.1 km – At the fork in the road next to the covered bridge, KEEP LEFT. At the end of the paved road, TURN LEFT. Follow the signs to Gehsteig-Alm and the red and white markings for the Ötztaler Urweg.
4.6 km – At the junction, TURN RIGHT onto the steep uphill path. Due to roots and stones, this path can be slippery when wet. Follow the red and white markings of the Ötztaler Urweg. Red-white-red color markings can be seen on the trees. In the further course you will pass two rope-secured points. Surefootedness and a head for heights are required here.
4.8 km – At the junction with the gravel road, KEEP RIGHT on the downhill path. Follow the signs to Tumpen and the red and white markings of the Ötztaler Urweg. Ignore the signs to the Gehsteig-Alm.
5.6 km – At the junction at signpost no. 3/0613, TURN LEFT onto the steep downhill path. You will pass a game feeding station and come to a gravelled driveway. KEEP LEFT and continue downhill. Follow the signs for the Tumpener Rundweg and the red and white markings for the Ötztaler Urweg.
6.3 km – At the junction, TURN LEFT onto a narrow path. At the junction to the Chapel of the Mother of God, continue STRAIGHT AHEAD.
6.6 km - At the junction with the gravel road, KEEP RIGHT and follow the path further downhill. Ignore the signs to Tumpen Burgstein.
7.0 km – On the paved road in the settlement, follow the road downhill to the valley. Follow the red and white markings of the Ötztaler Urweg. In the valley, TURN LEFT twice and follow the cycle path markings on the road and the signs to Piburger See.
7.5 km – At the fork after the small creek bridge, keep RIGHT and walk parallel to the creek for about 1 km. Follow the signs to Oetz. On the way you will pass a bridge to the right.
8.4 km – At the junction with the bridge and signpost no. 35, go STRAIGHT AHEAD into the forest path. Follow the signs to Oetz and the red and white markings of the Ötztaler Urweg. Ignore the downhill path towards Habichen and ignore the right-hand marking of the Ötztaler Urweg over the bridge.
9.0 km – Once in the valley, continue STRAIGHT AHEAD. Ignore the signs to the right Habichersee with the red and white marking of the Ötztaler Urweg. At the junction with the gravel road, TURN LEFT. Until further notice, follow the signs to Piburger See. Ignore branching paths.
9.8 km – At the junction with signpost no. 26, TURN RIGHT onto a forest path. Here you leave the Ötztaler Urweg. Follow the signs to Piburger See to the lakeshore. On the lakeshore, TURN LEFT and walk along the shore.
To get to the bathing area and the Seehäusl inn, you would have to turn right here.
11.1 km – At the junction with the large information board, go STRAIGHT AHEAD onto the asphalt road. Follow the road uphill until you reach the village of Piburg. The first hotel on the right is the Hotel Seehüters Seerose.
11.6 km – At the Hotel Seehüters Seerose you have reached your destination for the day.

Ausrüstung
We recommend wearing hiking boots that are well broken-in, plus a rain jacket and waterproof trousers in wet weather, as well as taking sun cream and a hat on nicer days.
In your information pack, you’ll find a detailed list of all the required hiking gear, including some good hiking boots, appropriate clothing, a rain jacket and a backpack

You will also be crossing a few roads on today’s walk. Even if the roads are quiet, look out for cars when crossing.
You are responsible for your own safety. Know your limits and follow signs and instructions at all times. Off-track navigation is not recommended.
