Walkthrough the Gleirschklamm Gorge before continuing on to the Möslalm Hut, where you can take a break before continuing your walk to the Pfeishütte.

In the morning transfer to the luscious green Hinterautal Valley where you begin your walk. Following the river Isar through the exciting Gleirschklamm Gorge before ascending steadily up to the Möslalm Hut, where you can take a break before continuing your walk to the Pfeishütte. Situated between the vertical cliffs of the Karwendel mountains, the idyllic Pfeishütte Hut sits in a unique and breathtaking location.

Autorentipp

If you are sure-footed, you should not miss the path through the gorge, it offers an exhilarating experience. Some of the sections of the walk are will partly secured with a rope and is only recommended if the weather is good

As an alternative to the gorge, you can also ascend to the Möslalm via the road.

Start

0.0 km - START to the right of the Wiesenhof Gasthof, spot the 3 small wooden huts across the meadow below. Walk down to the huts, follow the signposts to Gleirschklamm Gorge from there.

0.1 km - Follow the narrow descending path along switchbacks, CROSS a wooden bridge over the Isar river. CONTINUE STRAIGHT after the bridge, along the hedges and follow the narrow track as it ascends to the right. Follow the ascending gravel path,  ignore the forest path that continues straight.

0.2 km- Reach a wide gravel track, TURN LEFT and follow the signs to Gleirschklamm Gorge.

2.0 km- CROSS a bridge. Directly after the bridge, CONTINUE STRAIGHT, as the path ascends. There is a lookout point and rest area on the right. BEAR RIGHT and follow the signs "Gleirschklammsteig - for experienced hikers only". Ignore the path that branches off to the left direction Scharnitz via the Gleischerhöhe.

A narrow path snakes through the gorge, which is partly secured with a rope and is only recommended if you are surefooted. Follow this path for the next kilometre.

3.0 km - ARRIVE at the bottom of the river. BEAR RIGHT and follow the ascending path as it snakes its way up.

3.3 km - TURN LEFT and CROSS the bridge, following the signs to the Pfeishütte and Möslalm.

3.8 km - TURN LEFT and CROSS the bridge to continue to follow the signs.

4.3 km - REACH a wide gravel road. TURN RIGHT and follow the yellow signs, ascending to the Pfeishütte and Möslalm.

4.9 km - CROSS a small bridge. TURN RIGHT and stay on the lower wide gravel path.

5.7 km - PASS a hut on your right.

5.8 km - BEAR LEFT when you reach the fork. Follow the gravel road as it bends to the left.

6.7 km-  At the fork, BEAR RIGHT. Ignore the path up to the left.

7.3 km - BEAR LEFT and stay on the wide gravel path. Ignore the path that branches off to the right. Follow the signs to Möslalm and Amtssäge. In about 40 metres come to a fork and BEAR LEFT.

7.8 km - The Amtssäge Hut is on the right. Continue along the path until a T-junction.

8.0 km - At the T-junction, TURN RIGHT and follow the path straight ahead to the Möslalm. Ignore all paths turning off.

8.7 km – REACH the Möslalm hut. CONTINUE STRAIGHT and follow the signs to the Pfeishütte.

9.2 km- At the fork, BEAR LEFT, shortly after reaching a second fork, BEAR RIGHT. Continue on the main trail following the signs.

10.7 km - REACH a T-junction, TURN sharp RIGHT and then TURN LEFT following the signs to the Pfeishütte.

14.3 km – TURN LEFT on the gravel path. Leave the gravel path and CONTINUE STRAIGHT along the path following the signs to the Pfeishütte.

15.9 km -  ARRIVE at the Pfeishütte. Enjoy your night in the rustic mountain hut!

Refreshment stop: Möslalm (as of July 2019), Please enquire locally whether it is actually open, as opening times can change at short notice. Otherwise, there is no possibility to stop for refreshments on the route.

Ausrüstung

We recommend wearing hiking boots that are well broken-in, plus a rain jacket and waterproof trousers in wet weather, as well as taking sun cream and a hat on nicer days.

In your information pack, you’ll find a detailed list of all the required hiking gear, including some good hiking boots, appropriate clothing, a rain jacket and a backpack.

In the gorge, you have no mobile phone network. Therefore, only walk this trail in pairs so that someone can call for help in an emergency. If it rains, the path in the gorge could be slippery. In bad weather, take the alternative route via the road

As an alternative to the gorge, you can also ascend to the Möslalm via the road.
