Hike from Pertisau at Achensee via Lamserjoch to Eng-Alm.
The wild Karwendel mountains are calling. Today’s walk takes you on well-maintained trails to Gramaialm meadows. The trail continues to ascend to the Lamsenjoch ridge and descends to the rustic Binsalm, where you are invited to rest your feet, taking a break and admiring the view. Continue descending on gravel and forest paths to the Eng-Alm's luscious green valley, the largest village in Tyrol, sitting at an altitude of 1250m, in the middle of the Karwendel National Park.
Stop at the farm store in Almdorf, you can buy fresh mountain cheese, bacon, sausages and alpine bread as hiking snacks.

Pertisau Karwendeltäler Car Park
Mountain Inn "Die Eng"
0.00 km - Start the hike at the Karwendel valley car park, at the tollbooth. Walk STRAIGHT across the car park. At the end of the car park is a large sign for the Karwendel Nature Park and to the left of it is a sign for the Adlerweg. TURN LEFT at the sign and follow the paved hiking and biking trail in the direction of Falzhurn Alm / Gramai Alm.
Caution: This section is very popular with mountain bikers. Be careful and keep an eye out for them.
Follow the path, ignoring all trails turning off of it.
3.5 km - Reach the Falzhurn Almen. PASS the buildings and CONTINUE through a gate. Continue on the tarred path. After a few hundred meters, it turns into a gravel path at the stream.
4.2 km - Reach a fork in the road. Here, choose whether to continue along the forest or follow the meadow path. Both paths reunite shortly before the Gramai Alm. These instructions follow the forest path, TURN LEFT through the gate. The path now ascends slightly and after a 1 km reach a stream bed (which in the summer is usually dry)
6.2 km – The meadow path branches off to the right. CONTiNUE STRAIGHT. Spot Gramai Alm in the distance.
7.0 km - REACH Gramai Alm. CROSS the car park and pass the building on the right, there is no signpost here. The path leads between several buildings. Behind the last building find a board with signposts and an Adlerweg sign. CONTINUE STRAIGHT along the wide gravel path, which now ascends slightly.
7.3 km - At the first fork in the road after Gramai, BEAR LEFT and follow the sign towards Lamsenhütte on a wide gravel path.
8.0 km - At the fork in the road, BEAR LEFT and leave the wide gravel path. Turn onto the narrow path towards Lamsenhütte, which steadily snakes its way up.
11.0 km - REACH the eastern Lamsenjoch. TURN sharp RIGHT here, following the signs to Binsalm/Engalm. Hike along a gravelly high trail (slightly exposed) and after another 800m reach the western Lamsenjoch. From here admire the beautiful view into the Engtal Valley.
If you would like to take a break at the eastern Lamsenjoch, take the short detour to the Lamsenhütte, which is visible in the distance.
11.8 km - At the western Lamsenjoch, go THROUGH the wooden gate. Keep LEFT and follow the descending path towards Binsalm, which soon turns into a wider gravel path. After the first hairpin bend on the wide gravel path, switch to the hiking trail running slightly below. This will save you a few hairpin bends. Follow the easily visible descending path.
The path and a gravel road cross several times, both paths descend to Binsalm.
13.9 km – In Binsalm, TURN LEFT, through a cattle barrier onto a wide gravel road that descends into the valley. Follow this path for about 1 km.
15.0 km - Look for the turnoff to Eng. BEAR RIGHT onto a narrow forest trail that descends steeply. At the end of the forest trail, you will reach the high valley of the Eng River. At the bottom, BEAR RIGHT and CROSS the bridge to reach the Eng mountain inn.
15.7 km - You have reached the mountain inn "Die Eng".

Karwendal Alpine Park
The Karwendel Alpine Park is the largest Nature Park in Austria and it comprises a total of 11 protected areas, the most famous of which is the Karwendel. More information on Karwendel Nature Park can be found at https://www.alpenwelt-karwendel.de/en
Always wear good walking boots with a robust sole, and take waterproofs with you. Take plenty of water with you (min. 1 litre) and don’t forget sunscreen!
Today you may be walking past a few different areas where cows graze. Although generally very docile and used to walkers, keep your distance and never turn your back on a cow that is behaving strangely or aggressive. Be particularly vigilant around cows with calves.
Always allow plenty of time for your hike. The walking times indicated do not include breaks. Breaks for photos and a rest need to be added to the specified times.
Make sure you find out about current weather conditions and keep an eye on weather changes. Thunderstorms can gather very quickly in the Alps.
Do not leave the designated hiking trails!
