Part 2 of the 2-peak hike on Bad Ischl's local mountain, hike to the Katrinkogel (1,544m) and the Elferkogel (1,603m) where you can enjoy spectacular views.

Head for the Siriuskogel, Bad Ischl’s local hill at approx. 600 metres above sea-level. From the top, enjoy views over Bad Ischl from the panoramic watch tower. Take the cable-car to Katrin Alm at 1,400m  for a taste of the high-mountain life. Ascend on foot to the Katrinkogel (1,544m) and the Elferkogel (1,603m) where you can enjoy spectacular 360 views of the Salzkammergut landscapes. Treat yourself to some homemade Kaiserschmarrn (hot fluffy pancake served with home-made jam and icing sugar) at the Katrin Alm mountain hut, before descending back to Bad Ischl.

Start

Weg

ARRIVE at the mountain station, walk past the Katrin mountain inn.

At the fork in the road BEAR RIGHT and walk along the serpentines (path no. 895) up to the summit of the Katrinkogel, with the historic Franz-Josef-Kreuz Cross. From here you take the same route back along the way you came.

At the second junction BEAR RIGHT to reach the summit of the Elferkogel. From the summit cross, return the same way you came to the Katrin mountain station.

After marvelling at the fantastic view of the lakes and peaks of the Salzkammergut, take the Katrin cable car back to the valley station.

Ausrüstung

We recommend that you wear well-worn hiking shoes with a good profile. In addition, a waterproof rain jacket and rain pants in bad weather and sunscreen and a sun hat in good weather.

Always take enough water with you (at least 1 litre). Hiking poles can take the strain off your knees when hiking

Sicherheitshinweise

The ascent to the summit of Katrin and Elferkogel requires surefootedness. If you want to skip this section, take the Katrin cable car to the mountain station and enjoy the panorama view from there. 

In rainy weather, the trails can be muddy and slippery. Take footwear with good tread that gives you support.

Inquire about the current weather conditions (e.g. in your accommodation or at the local tourist information office) and watch the weather changes. Pay attention to any diversion information.

Please do not enter the pastures despite the diversion sign and follow the diversion until you are back on the regular path.
