Weg

The Salzalpensteig trail is very well-signposted. Simply follow the yellow signs with green mountains on them. (See your information pack for a picture).

To get to Bischofswiesen, take bus 841 from Bad Reichenhall station. The bus departs once an hour (e.g. 09:30) from bus stop 2. With your guest card, you can travel for free up to Bayerisch Gmain. From here onwards, the ticket price is €2.30 per person.

ARRIVE in Bischofswiesen, where your walk to Ramsau begins, the trail starts on Klaushäuslweg. Walking above the Frechenbach river, follow Schotterstraße through the bright mixed woodland. CROSS a bridge over the Frechenbach river, CONTINUE STRAIGHT on and then follow the course of the Tongraben river. After a bend to the right, a gravel path will ascend along the Marchlmühlbach stream through the bright woodland. You will now remain on this woodland road for a while. TURN RIGHT once and then stay on the path towards the Mordau Alm inn.

Pass the Mordau Alm inn and start your descent towards Klausgraben (TURN LEFT after the inn). After completing a relatively steep section of the trail, continue descending, CONTINUE STRIGHT on at the crossroads and stay on the path towards Ramsau.

For approximately twenty minutes, continue descending through the meadows of grazing cows; eventually, you’ll reach a small wooded area. Once you’ve passed this stretch of woodland, BEAR LEFT and follow the asphalt road. TURN LEFT onto a narrow meadow path at the Kaltbach stream; this path will lead you into the woods and out again. Shortly afterwards, cross over the main road to reach the “Zipfhäusl”. Immediately after passing the Zipfhäusl, BEAR RIGHT on the old Schluchtweg, following the course of the stream downhill, until you reach the main road and see Ramsau’s church – the subject of many a tourist’s photograph – on your right.

Return to Berchtesgaden on the bus, the stop is directly opposite the church. The journey to Berchtesgaden takes approximately 15 minutes. Take bus 846, which stops directly in front of the church.

If you’re going to have to wait a long time for a bus, you have the option to go into the village or explore the church at Ramsau: https://www.kirche-ramsau.de/
