Weg
Head uphill from the Westfalenhaus, keeping left at a junction to ascend to the Winnebachjoch. The route begins on beautiful grassy mountainsides, which eventually transition into a large jumble of rocks. Despite how it looks, the route is extremely well marked and the boulders are easy to navigate. Up above the majority of the boulderfield, there is one very short section to get around a boulder that has steel steps drilled into the rocks and a cable to hang onto for assistance. This is not an overly exposed step, and should be manageable for anybody who takes it on with care.
On the other side of the saddle, the boulders get more chaotic. The route continues to be well-marked throughout this area. Eventually, you will descend out of most of the boulders, and enjoy a beautiful meandering trail as it makes its way toward the Winnebachsee Hut, framed by a dramatic waterfall in the background.
Just before arriving at the hut, notice the trail that branches out to the right, northwest. This will be your trail for the next stage.
