HHT2 Stage 4 - Darmstaedter Hut to Konstanzer Hut
Die Tour
Autorentipp
Despite the short length of the day, it will be a strenuous day with a lot of descent. If you arrive at the hut too early, there are plenty of day tours to take from the hut. Ask the staff for a recommendation.

Weg
From the hut, ascend to the West toward the Kuchenjochl (Kuchen Saddle) on the trail called the Apothekerweg. This ascends directly from the lawn behind the hut. The ascent begins strenuous, but then becomes mellow compared to the previous day's ascent. Some maps show a glacier crossing, but the glacier melts further each year and will soon be gone. In 2020, there is just a relatively flat snowfield to cross, but it is also possible to walk around it. The trail picks up on the far side of the snowfield up to the right on the hill. From here, the character of the trail changes and there are occassional steep sections. The trail gets steeper toward the Kuchenjochl and has a short section with exposure that is secured with a steel cable for more security (additional gear NOT required).
From the saddle, it is possible to ascend the peak to the north, the Scheibler 2,978. This is an additional 250 m. of ascent and should take about 1.5 hours round trip.
Descend from the saddle through talus, scree and then grass toward the Konstanzer Hut. As you reach the base of the valley and cross the foot bridge, turn right and follow the road to the turnoff to the hut.
