WHERE I COME FROM, Pasquale Calò quartet

Where I Come From it’s a research work conducted by Pasquale Calò since 2012.
Born as a diary on elements of popular musical traditions encountered in Italy, Spain, the Balcans, India, North Africa, and in the Middle and South America, the music of “Where I Come From” has passed from hand to hand among many artists, indeed the music was played in various formations and with different ensembles.
The work is focused on the concept of the Identity. Our discussion led us to dig deep into our traditions to circumscribe, recognize and develop in a new light those elements that we inherit from tradition, from the oldest part of out culture. During this research we’ve treated elements of the Mediterranean and South American popular musical traditions, as well as
elements of twentieth-century musical aesthetics in the same way. The compositions are inspired by music from all over the world. We sincerely think that cultural biodiversity is essential for the anthropological development of the human species. In our lives and in our music we carry the heritage of different cultures, whose axioms and peculiarities we have absorbed, in travels and in everyday life.
