Weg

Return to the junction with the Ammer-Amper bicycle route just south of Peiting. And follow the Ammer-Amper Bicycle Route to Weilheim. Pay close attention in Weilheim, as the signage can be easy to miss.

About 5 km. after Weilheim, follow the AAR on a bridge across the river. Shortly after, the AAR signage points to the left, just before a tunnel under the train tracks.

Take the tunnel, and continue more or less along the river until you reach the main road. Turn right onto the road, and cycle a very short distance along it until turning left toward the Ammer Alm.

You will eventually see another AAR sign that turns to the left. Ignore this, and go straight toward Herrsching.

When you meet the main road, turn right to cross the river, and then locate the bicycle path on the left just after the bridge. Ride into Fischen, following the bicycle route left through a neighborhood.

Here you have a choice, the shortest, and most direct route climbs to Erling via Erlingerstrasse (just to the right when you come out on the main road). This road is suitable for bicycles, but has some traffic on it. Upon arriving in Erling, it may make sense to check into your hotel and leave your luggage before the very short ride to the Andechs Kloster (monastery). The monastery is less than a kilometer away from Erling, so it is possible to walk.

A more enjoyable, but 7 km. longer, alternative, would be to follow the bicycle route along the Ammersee that leads to Herrsching, which is well signed out. From Herrsching, follow the Kientalstrasse as it climbs steeply to the Andechs Kloster (monastery).

We recommend leaving your bicycles near the parking lot, freeing yourself for the steep walk up through the crowds to the monastery.
