Weg

Summary: Follow the Inn Radweg West to Rosenheim, where you'll transition to the Salinen Weg and then to the Priental Radweg.

When coming out of the Bridge Gate into the old town of Wasserburg am Inn, turn left (if you are coming from Hotel Fletzinger, you'll stay straight instead of turning left through the gate - but if you haven't been on the other side of the bridge yet, you definitely should check that out first). Follow this road uphill, passing some prominent churches and a small castle.

After descending from the castle, you'll reach a large road. The bicycle path is across the street on the sidewalk. Turn left onto this sidewalk and settle in for a sustained ascent. You are now back on the Inn Radweg West. Ascend passing underneath the building and continue onto a small road, staying on the road until you reach flat terrain again. Follow this road straight until it ends at another road. Turn left here and you'll end up at a round-a-bout. The bicycle trail continues across the street along a sidewalk, to the right.

At the next round-a-bout, follow the bicycle path signs to the left, signed out for Rosenheim and enjoy a relaxing descent through the grounds of a clinic. At the bottom of the hill, turn right at a parking lot and then left. Follow the bicycle path signs through small villages and farm land.

Shortly after arriving at the Inn River, pass a small restaurant on the right and you meet a busy road. Turn left here to follow the sidewalk on the bridge (technically bicyclists are supposed to walk their bikes on this bridge) and then turn left immediately afterward onto a dirt road. You'll ride parallel to a large road for a bit. From here, you'll have a long stretch of flat terrain. Enjoy it and pace yourself, because there will be some more hills toward the end of the day.

Eventually, the bicycle signs will lead you back to the river, where you'll enjoy a long stretch of views and easy navigation.

It will be obvious when you are coming into Rosenheim. You'll see more people and you'll pass some houses. After passing an overlook platform (drinking water available) on the left at the junction of the Mangfall and Inn Rivers, take the bridge to the left signed out for Kufstein and the Innradweg West. Continue following this trail along the Inn River. After riding under a road, take a sharp turn (uphill) to the right at the sign for the Inn Museum, also signed out for the Salinen Weg.

You'll leave the Inn Radweg West here at Rosenheim and will now follow the Salinen Weg signs for the next couple hours.

Turn right at the road and follow it over the river, staying on the sidewalk. After the bridge, continue straight up a hill (still remaining on the sidewalk). A little ways after the hill, turn right, following signs for the Salinen Weg (a large brick building is directly opposite). Follow the bicycle route signs through neighborhoods and then through farmland. Eventually you'll arrive at a larger road. Cross the street onto the bicycle path at the opposite side, and turn right, continuing to follow signs for the Salinen Weg and now for Bernau.

Follow this road until crossing over railroad tracks, and turn left directly after, still following signs for the Salinenweg and now Riedering. Look for the right turn signed out for the Salinenweg shortly before a parking lot and take this. Ride through some fields and some forest and turn left at the bench signed out for Bernau/Felden and Riedering, still following the Salinenweg. Shortly after, there will be a right turn, still following the same signage. This points you toward the village of Riedering with mountain views in the background.

In the village, follow the Salinenweg sign to the left at the barn. When this ends, turn right following signs for the bicycle route and then left. This left turn marks the beginning of hilly terrain, which you'll have now all the way to the lake. Ride up the hill, when you think you're at the top, you'll turn right only to discover even more uphill. Eventually you'll arrive at a bench overlooking the church in the village and the mountain views should make the effort all worth it.

Continue following the signs for the Salinenweg through the farmland and small villages. After a fun downhill, you'll come into a village where you'll turn right, following signs for Bernau/Felden and the Salinenweg. Continue following the route through farmland and small villages. Eventually the road will turn to gravel and you'll make a right turn followed by a left turn. Here the bicycle route signs split, and you'll continue to following Salinenweg signs to the left. CAUTION: this section has plenty of loose gravel and can be a little slippery. It's important to remain in control on the descent (it's really nothing bad or tricky). After crossing the creek, there is a long ascent on a gravel road that will be exhausting.

When you come into a mid-sized village, continue following signs for the Salinenweg, making a right turn, followed by a left turn that will take you to a main road. You'll cross this road onto a small road that will descend to cross a creek and then ascend again at the other side.

AT THE TOP OF THIS ASCENT YOU WILL LEAVE THE SALINENWEG. The Salinenweg turns right here and you want to turn left, now on the Priental Radweg, signed for Prien am Chiemsee.

Enjoy fun downhill into Prien. When you arrive at the main road through town (if you look to your left you will see a round-a-bout), turn right here. There may be quite a bit of traffic. Pay attention, because there will be a right turn lane that splits off (you'll need to stay in the lane going straight or use the pedestrian crosswalk here). Then go straight through two round-a-bouts. A bike lane picks up right after the second round-a-bout.

After crossing over a set of railroad tracks, look for a bicycle route sign prompting you to turn left. You'll cross over the tracks again, and then turn right immediately after. From here, it's a straight shot to the ferry station at the Chiemsee. The road will curve to the left, but you want to stay straight here on the pedestrian trail until you arrive at a road just before the ferry station.

Please walk your bicycle in the area around the ferry station as bicycle riding is forbidden there. There is an e-bike charging station.

Take the next ferry to the Frauen Insel, where a brewery experience awaits. Also, if you like marzipan, make sure to pick some up at the convent store. They make it themselves and it's delicious!
