Start
Deutsches Museum in Munich
Ziel
Isar Bridge Bad Tölz
Weg
The official Munich to Venice route starts at the Deutsches Museum.
Upon arriving at the Deutsches Museum, you will begin to see the signage for your route. Follow the signage to the south along the Isar River on the east side of the river, keeping your eyes open for the signage that indicates crossing a bridge to the west bank of the river. Just a short distance later, the trail crosses back over the river on the large, and very noticeable, Grosser Hesselöher Bridge. You will need to ascend to get onto the bridge. If you miss the turnoff for the bridge, back-track, as the quality of trail along this side of the river degrades quickly.
The Munich to Venice route splits shortly after crossing over the bridge. The east route goes around the Tegernsee (lake). In order to avoid the crowds on that route, we take the western route down through the charming village of Bad Tölz. This route continues straight to the south (the right fork). If you find yourself next to railroad tracks, you have taken the wrong route.
Continue south through Grünwald, and then toward Wolfratshausen (although you do not go into the city center), past Geretsried, and finally to Bad Tölz.
You'll come into Bad Tölz along the river. This stage ends at the bridge. Refer to your Personal eGuidebook for directions to your accommodations.
Anreise
Öffentliche Verkehrsmittel
If traveling by SBahn through Munich, it is possible to alight at the Deutsches Museum stop. Follow the signs to the Deutches Museum. The route starts at the bridge over the Isar that connects the courtyard at the Deutsches Museum to the road just to the east.
Weitere Informationen
The signage through Grünwald has been the worst signed-out section of the route. The app is very helpful for this section. There have been promises of improved signage, but we have not yet been able to confirm it.
Sicherheitshinweise
These directions and GPS tracks should be used only as a tool to aid navigation. Roads and trails are not always drawn on digital maps exactly as they are in real life, and trail conditions can change over time, leading to alternate routings. Always watch the trail and pay close attention to the trail signage, especially regarding detours or dangers that may lie on the route. Make safe navigation decisions that consider all of these factors. Never blindly follow a GPS track.
